Haiti Compassion Trip Overview

As part of our ongoing effort to step into the hurt of those impoverished throughout the world, we are launching a compassion trip to Haiti to directly link with our ongoing journey in Titanyen. Below is an outlook on what this trip will entail and specifics on how you can partner to make trip a success.

Out journey in Haiti: Ever since we first stepped foot in Haiti after the tragic earthquake in 2010, our bond with the Haitian people has been unbreakable. We moved to uplift a tent camp of internally displaced people called Capvva. Through our partner on the ground in Haiti, Haiti Compassion Work, we continue to journey with Capvva residents who and then moved to a rural village north of Port-au-Prince, Titanyen, when the tent camp was officially closed. More on Titanyen here.

Moving with Compassion: We call our trips “Compassion Trips” because we aim to step into the poverty and provide a light when there is darkness. Those who journey direct to places where we have ongoing projects are able to meet face-to-face with beneficiaries and better understand the complexities of poverty. The trips become a transformative process to see poverty, to hear the stories, and connect on a personal level with the people we aim to help. This trip to Haiti is very much like that as we will connect with people we have been working with for nearly eight years.

Haiti Trip In Focus

Overview: We aim to step into the lives of those in Titanyen over a dynamic six-day period. We will meet with micro-loan participants, shop at the local markets, learn about challenges in meeting subsistence, and worship at the local church. We will also visit and spend time with kids during the church’s annual Vacation Bible School, which services 250 kids in the VBS from 6 to 15 years old.

Trip dates: Aug. 21-28
Cost: $1500

Trip Leader: Our board member Larry Simpson has stepped up to lead this year’s trip. Larry has been a long-time prayer partner and joined the JTJ board in 2017. Larry lives in Puyallup, Washington, worships at Joint Base Lewis McChord Chapels, has a servant’s heart and seeks to lead by example. His love of Christ and the great commission compel him to serve, faithfully taking up the challenge of Matthew 23:23 to walk in faith: “…For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.” Read more about Larry’s background and faith testimony here.

Uplifting Vacation Bible School: As part of the Compassion Trip, we are raising funds to pour into the Titanyen church’s annual Vacation Bible School. Funds raised will go to pay for lunches for the children who attend and craft supplies. Lunches will consist of rice, beans. A portion of the funds raised will go toward a compassion gift for the teachers whose annual salaries are extremely limited. Our goal for this is $1,500 and you can donate here.
