From the Director: Stepping into a new journey with Zoranger

Capvva is now empty, the only thing left standing is the church/school that housed so many moments of worship, school for the children, and special food distributions.

Now that our chapter with Capvva has closed we have been prayerfully considering our next steps.

Our call to bring others closer to Jesus has not wavered. But as we’ve recognized that we must be more intentional in our practices in walking with the poor so that we don’t disempower them through continual compassion activities.

We’ve recognized that we must empower the poor so that they can live sustainable lives: equipping the poor through training and capital investment to achieve successful vocational pursuits.

Our heart is to see not only sustainable change but transformational change, where people learn to find peace with God, with self, with each other, and the earth – through the reconciliation power of Jesus Christ.

And so we are launching a new beginning, within a new framework of a cooperative model that facilitates a process of resource sharing and collaboration among a community of farmers.

Specifically, we are journeying with the people of Zoranger, just north of Port-au-Prince, who have been severely hampered by Haiti’s hurricanes over the years. To ensure success as we journey, we’ve partnered with an organization that has been in Haiti for 30 years, the Foundation for International Development Assistance (FIDA). Their working arm in Haiti, productive cooperatives Haiti (pcH) have the agronomists and cooperative expertise to steward processes leading to sustainable change.

The project in Zornager will focus on poultry enterprise, raising chickens for sale in Haiti’s markets. Poultry enterprise has been offered as alternative to traditional farming because Zoranger’s arid land makes it difficult to have good crop yields. Through this enterprise development, the aim is to significantly raise the people’s abilities to feed their families and provide resources to community services.

The planning for this project is nearing finalization and FIDA/pcH is targeting November as a launch date.

We saw so many of you, Facebook fans/prayer partners, step forward in our journey with Capvva. We pray that you join us as we start this new journey – and together we will journey to see life growth in the people of Zoranger.

May the Lord bless and keep you.

Humbly in Christ,
Adam

Worship at Titanyen today in the new building

JTJ partnered with the church in Titanyen to rebuild the church from Capvva. God’s Spirit dwelled there and called many believers to worship. We look forward to celebrating with Titanyen the growth in believers and expanding out to nearby communities.

Scenes here first show the church in Capvva being rebuilt in early February and then transition to building in Titanyen this past July as Capvva began to shut down. Members of the Capvva community/church used move out funds provided by the UN to complete the church and were able to celebrate worship there this past Sunday. What a blessing to see God move and to see others call His name in worship!
